Solenoid Valves

Solenoids convert electrical energy into mechanical energy which, in turn, opens or closes the valve. There are two main types of solenoid valves, directly operated solenoid valves and pneumatically actuated solenoid valves. Directly operated solenoid valves act directly on the spool, whereas pneumatically piloted solenoid valves send an electrical signal to trigger air flow to move the spool (opening or closing the valve / changing port position).

Pneumatically piloted solenoid valves require much less power to control than directly operated solenoid valves, but they are noticeably slower.
